Karalee Stock Horse Stud is owned and operated by
Graham and Jan Brown who have been active in the Australian Stock
Horse Society since 1977.
In
2000 after deciding to start seriously breeding their own Australian
Stock Horses Graham and Jan purchased
Karalee Park in the picturesque Southern Highlands township of Exeter and set up Karalee Australian Stock
Horse Stud.
After looking at scores of stud
prospects Graham and Jan decided Hillson Dusky, chosen for his
foundation bloodlines, quiet temperament, trainable good nature and
classic Australian Stock Horse conformation and looks, would be the
perfect stallion to put to their already growing herd of foundation bred
broodmares, many of whom can be traced all the way back to the great
Abbey.
The Karalee broodmares have been carefully
selected for type and bred for their classical ASH bloodlines. These
Abbey bred mares, some of which were purchased directly from Theo
Hill, and some of which are actually grand daughters of Abbey, all
display his great temperament and working ability. Several of them
have competed in Campdrafting, Dressage or Hacking events prior to
being retired (if retirement is the right word) to stud. One of the
mares, Karalee Willows Abbey, bred by Karalee won three Second
ribbons at the ASH Nationals in 2000.
Karalee refuses to breed with horses which do not have this
quiet, trainable, attitude and have previously culled mares which
have not shown the temperament that they believe is so important.
